Parks and Recreation Maintenance Worker

Salary: $24.00-$36.00 hourly, dependent on qualifications.
Summary: This position is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the City of Marathon Parks and Beach facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facility, Ground, and Landscape Maintenance
- Opening and closing of Parks and Beaches, early morning and evening.
- Weekend hours required.
- Emptying Trash at each park
- Prepare athletic fields for various sports programs (soccer, baseball, flag football, etc.).
- Repair or replace plumbing fixtures at various City Parks and Beach facilities.
- Minor repair of replacement of electrical issues.
- Pressure washing and blowing of City’s Parks and Beach facilities as needed (pavilions, walkways, bridges, courts, etc.).
- Maintains Park and Beach facilities such as restrooms, pavilions, athletic fields, etc.
- Operate mowing equipment such as riding mowers, weed eaters, pole saws, chain saws, tractors, skid steers, and similar equipment.
- Performs weekly playground equipment inspection and maintenance at City Park and Beach facilities.
Irrigation System
- Knowledge of irrigation systems to perform routine maintenance on pressurized and drip irrigation systems.
- Services, repairs, and troubleshoots irrigation systems, including replacing broken heads, and assisting with minor breaks in the water lines. Assist with major irrigation repairs, as necessary.
- Assist with programming irrigation run times, monitors, and adjusting watering frequency, as necessary.
Equipment Maintenance, Repair, and Inventory
- Perform upkeep and maintenance on City Parks and Recreation maintenance equipment per schedule in accordance with safety standards.
- Services and maintains Parks and Recreation vehicles. Conduct weekly inspection and repairs on related equipment such as checking/servicing fuel, oil and coolant levels, tire pressure and general maintenance.
- Performs weekly upkeep of Parks and Recreation vehicles such as vacuuming inside vehicles, washing vehicles.
- Maintains an inventory of all tools and equipment for the Parks and Recreation equipment.
- Operates and utilizes equipment and tools designed for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials.

Recreation Programs & Special Events
- Assist with set-up, breakdown and staffing of City sponsored special events.
- Assist with the setting up for youth and adult recreation programs (baseball, flag football, basketball, etc.).
Miscellaneous Duties
- Assist with City-wide hurricane preparedness as required (securing all City facilities).
- Clean culverts and catch basins at City parks and beaches to provide storm-water systems maintenance.
- Knowledge of light carpentry is needed.
- Able to operate small mechanical equipment (skid steer, bobcat, forklift, etc.)
- Routine maintenance of HVAC systems.
Other related duties as may be assigned.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must be able to respond to emergencies under reasonable circumstances within 60 minutes.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of three years’ experience in building and grounds maintenance, and machinery operations. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in the English language
Possession or the ability to obtain a Florida Drivers License.
