Utility Maintenance Worker

Salary: $23.92-$34.50 hourly, dependent on qualifications.
Summary: This full time position is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in repairing and maintaining City wastewater treatment plants and collection system, drainage system and other City facilities using a variety of machines, tools, equipment and heavy machinery. Mechanical and electrical skills are preferred. Requires a class “B” CDL to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Skilled operation of heavy machinery including but not limited to jet/vac truck, backhoe, dump truck, septic pump truck and bobcat desired. Will train the right individual if selected for hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs routine operations and maintenance of vacuum collection system, wastewater collection mains, lift stations, storm water catch basins, cleaning of City facilities and City wastewater treatment plants. And also includes maintenance of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, landscaping and other components of the City’s facilities as required to do so.
Performs routine operations and maintenance of City equipment, which may include but not be limited to the jet/vac truck, septic pump truck, pickup trucks, television inspection cameras, chainsaws, mowers, weed eaters, various pumps, mechanical equipment, valves and other related wastewater equipment.
Able to perform predictive, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and other related tasks in the upkeep of City facilities and/or equipment. The ability to make inspections of equipment, buildings and collection system facilities in order to identify repairs and/or required maintenance actions. Fill out requisitions for materials needed for repairs and maintenance. Complete reports of all such activities in electronic format.
Knowledge of standard safety practices, precautions, and potential occupational hazards in the work to be performed. Ability to recognize biological hazards, hazardous chemical conditions, and confined space hazards. Also Maintenance of Traffic standards to be observed.
Be on call for emergency after hours calls. May be required to perform on-call emergency services during off-duty hours. Assists with City wide hurricane preparedness. Install hurricane shutters.
Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure that City facilities are secure from trespassers, gates are closed to the general public, and minimize vandalism. Maintain a professional and congenial demeanor towards the public. Follow all traffic laws and City policies in the operation of City vehicles.
Other related duties as may be assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Experience in the construction trades (electrical, plumbing, welding, underground pipe laying, painting, and masonry) desirable. This job requires a Class “B” CDL be obtained within 6 months of hire with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements. Skilled operation of heavy machinery a plus. Knowledge of standard practices, methods and materials used in the mechanical trades is also desirable. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in the English language
Possess a State of Florida driver’s license Class E with a clean driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL.
