FOURTH OF JULY ON THE BEACH!

Once again, the City of Marathon will treat locals and visitors to a beautiful fireworks show on the 4th of July. The fireworks are set off from Sombrero Beach and the public is encouraged to find a spot on the beach, or anchor outside of the swim zone to watch the show.

Safety is a priority: please be vigilant of your surroundings, stay hydrated and cool, and leave fireworks to the professionals.

On the 4th of July, the Sombrero Beach neighborhood will be extremely congested. Tow away zones on the right of way will be suspended, but parking fees remain in effect. Parking is free for cars registered to a City of Marathon or Key Colony Beach address. All other vehicles must pay for parking.

Drivers should park their vehicles “end-in” to lessen the congestion at the evening’s conclusion as many attempt to depart at the same time. Marathon Fire Rescue Chief John Johnson urges all visitors and locals to leave fireworks to the professionals.

“Each 4th of July, thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured when using consumer style fireworks,” Johnson said. “Stay safe everyone, and enjoy the holiday weekend.”

Parade start at 11am at Marathon High School and ends at Sombrero Beach.

Fireworks start at dark.
