Two inspections are required for residential connections by the City?s building department. The first is a lateral inspection and the second is a final inspection where the connection to the house can be made.
On June 24, 2008, the City adopted an Initial Assessment Resolution (Resolution 2008-96) which established the assessment methodology and amounts for System Development Charges. The Resolution includes a Wastewater Improvements Assessment Program Report which provides detailed information on the City’s assessment program.

Concurrent with the City’s wastewater project construction, the City is also constructing stormwater management facilities and repaving City roads. A water re-use component is included for large users.
A property owner must either convert or abandon an existing septic system through the Department of Health (305) 289-2721. Proof of approval by the Department of Health at (305) 289-2721 for conversion or abandonment of septic system or abandonment of cesspool is required within 180 days after City's final inspection in order to close Building Department permit.
If DOH septic abandonment/ cistern conversion approval is not received within 180 days of the final inspection, the permit will become expired.
A stainless 4″ screen (Part no. GVF) available thru AirVac, at (574) 223-3980 ext. 353 or http://www.airvac.com. Additionally, there are local plumbing supply stores that may provide this screen.
The City’s sewer lateral permit application form should be used.
You may apply for a permit at any time.
This would be done after the first or “lateral” inspection has been approved and only on the day of the “final” inspection. The City will install and test a valve in the vacuum pit connected to the wastewater service line. Do not disconnect from the existing system until you are certain that everything is functioning properly.
